Zinfandel wines were originally thought to be from California but was recently found to be of Croatian origin and related to Primitivo wines of Italy. Both red and white zinfandel wines are produced in the US. The white Zinfandel wines tend to be fruity blush wines while the red Zinfandel wines tend to be hearty full bodied high alcohol wines. Zinfandel wines tend to be blended with a little Petite Syrah to lend some roundness. Look for aromas of blackberry, blueberry, plum, raisin, cherry, vanilla, cinnamon, maple, mushroom when sampling Zinfandel wines.
